Learn English Faster with these Games and Tips

If you want to improve your English and learn faster, keep reading, we have just the thing for you.

You will find online resources to practise English at home, fun and engaging games, and tips on how to improve and get better faster.

Games

  • Quizlet – memorisation is really important for fluency. Quizlet is one fun way to learn and memorise new English vocabulary through online flashcards. And to make it extra useful, try and create a sentence with the new words you’re learning – context is really important when we learn something new!
  • Lyrics Training – if you love music, this one is a great way to practise your listening while playing your favourite (English) songs. Complete the lyrics, and you can decide how difficult or easy you want it to be.
  • Kahoot – play quizzes on different topics and grammar/vocabulary. Working under time pressure is good for memorisation, and fun!

Tips

Use English as much as you can. If you don’t have anyone to speak to, you can work on your listening skills with these resources:

  • BBC 6-minute English – listen to short podcasts on many different and interesting topics. After listening, you will be able to read the script, and to do some activities to practise further and learn new vocabulary. The podcasts are short, so they’re perfect even if you don’t have much time.
  • Elllo – if you have even less time, then Elllo is the perfect resource for you. Only one minute long, you can watch these short videos, answer comprehension questions, and check the script if there was something you didn’t understand.
  • PlayPhrase.me – not sure how to pronounce a word? Type in a word or a sentence into this website, and you will get 5 different clips from films with the word/sentence in context. This is very useful to hear people with different accents and how the pronunciation might change.

Extra tip: try and listen to people with different accents. Most interactions are between people of different nationalities, so the more practice you have, the better you will be able to understand.

P.S. want more free resources to practise English?
