FCE/CAE and IELTS Exam Classes

What is IELTS?

IELTS is the world’s most popular English language exam that tests English proficiency for higher education and migration. It assesses the four skills – reading, writing, listening, and speaking. It is designed to reflect one’s ability to use English in real life – general or academic. Whether you are applying for a university course or a job in a multinational company – IELTS is the first step in making your dream come true!

Some facts about the IELTS exam

  • There are two versions of the exam: General and Academic
  • The GENERAL TRAINING test is aimed at those who wish to live and work in an English-speaking country
  • The ACADEMIC test serves as proof of your ability to study at a tertiary level in an English speaking country
  • All candidates take the same LISTENING and SPEAKING test, while the READING and WRITING parts differ depending on the type of test that you are taking
  • Here is how long your exam is going to take:
    • Listening – 30 minutes
    • Reading – 60 minutes
    • Writing – 60 minutes
    • Speaking – 11-14 minutes

  • In the school we help you prepare for the examination and give you continuous feedback on your performance. However, attending the course does not guarantee you the grade/band that you seek. This will only depend on your performance on the exam.

FCE and CAE Exam Preparation Course

What are FCE and CAE?
  • A CAMBRIDGE ENGLISH: FIRST (FCE) qualification proves you have the language skills to live and work independently in an English-speaking country or study on courses taught in English. CEFR level – B2 (Upper-Intermediate).
  • Thousands of educational institutions, businesses and government departments all around the world accept CAMBRIDGE ENGLISH: ADVANCED (CAE) as proof of high-level achievement in learning English. CEFR level – C1 (Advanced).

About the course
In this flexible, highly dynamic and interactive course, International House Malta offers their students the following:
  • 20 General English plus 10 exam preparation group lessons per week.
  • Focus on the different parts of the exams, learn exam-taking strategies and improve your general level of English.
  • A complete course that begins 10 to 12 weeks prior to the exam dates.
  • The choice to join the course for a shorter period.
  • The option to join a GE group class and have 10 one to one exam preparation lessons per week.
  • Experienced teachers who will provide you with personalised feedback and design activities so that you can prepare for your exam in the way that suits you the best.
Disclaimer
  • In order to join the course you need to already have an appropriate level of English (Strong B1+ or B2 for the FCE exam, and strong B2 or C1 for the CAE exam). If your level of English is insufficient but you still wish to join the group, this will have to be discussed with one of our Academic Managers before the final decision is made.

Why Malta?

With sunny skies, beautiful light, great visibility; caves, wrecks and Mediterranean sea life, and suitable temperatures to dive all-year round, Malta is an excellent choice to combine your passion for diving and study English in an English-speaking country. We offer English and diving packages for complete beginners to certified divers, combining the skills of a professional and reputable dive centre and the well-qualified teaching staff from International House Malta. We have a range of English and Diving packages to suit all experience levels. Each package includes 3 hours of 2:1 English tuition per day*. These are designed to suit your needs and interests, and include a range of diving-related topics. Topics covered include:

  • Introduction to Malta dive sites
  • Asking questions during a dive briefing
  • Talking about dive experiences
  • Dealing with medical emergencies
  • Describing aquatic life
  • Introduction to underwater photography

Dive in the morning when the light is best and enjoy classes later in the day from 4 – 7.30pm (4 – 5.30pm, 6 – 7.30pm). All packages are 1 week in duration, but you can add extra weeks of English study and dives to your course.*1 to 1 classes are also available upon request. If there is no student of the same level, students will receive 80% of the hours as 1 to 1 lessons.

All courses include full equipment hire if required at no extra cost and highly qualified instructors. Additional costs – Dry suit hire = €15 per dive, Gozo trip = €25 per day, Open Water & Advanced course manuals = €50 each. Under 18s require signed parental consent. All participants must be in adequate medical condition to participate in these activities.
