Group learning plus lessons that are only yours
Twenty General English lessons a week with the class, and ten one-to-one lessons shaped entirely by what you need to work on.
Who this course suits
- Students who want the pace and variety of a class, plus time on their own priorities.
- Learners with one specific weakness that a group course cannot spend a fortnight on.
- Professionals who need general fluency and a narrow work goal at the same time.
- Students on a short stay who want the most progress the week can hold.
What the two halves do
The group lessons build all-round English and give you the practice that only comes from speaking with other learners at your level. The one-to-one lessons are planned from a needs analysis, so they can go straight at whatever the group course cannot: a presentation next month, the sounds you keep mispronouncing, the emails you rewrite five times.
How the week is split
| Part of the week | What it is | Planned by |
|---|---|---|
| 20 lessons | General English, in a class of no more than 15 | The course syllabus and your placement level |
| 10 lessons | One-to-one with a teacher, 45 minutes each | Your needs analysis |
What students use the one-to-one half for
- A presentation, interview or exam with a date on it
- Pronunciation of the particular sounds that get in the way
- Writing: emails, reports, academic work
- Business, workplace or hospitality English
- Conversation and fluency, with nobody else waiting for a turn
How it works
Your level is confirmed by an online placement test before you arrive, and the group lessons follow the General English 20 timetable. The one-to-one lessons are 45 minutes each and are arranged around that timetable, subject to teacher availability, most commonly in the afternoon. Every one-to-one student completes a needs analysis first, so the teacher plans around your actual goal rather than a syllabus.
